Shush Castle

Shush Castle, an ancient fortress in the heart of KhuzestanThe Castle of Susa, also known as the Castle of the French and the Acropolis Castle, is located in the center of the ancient city of Susa, on top of a high hill called the Acropolis. This castle, which dates back to the Qajar era, has become one of the tourist attractions of Susa with its special architecture and materials used in its construction.History of the castle:Susa Castle was built about 120 years ago by Jacques Demorgan, a French archaeologist, in order to house archaeologists and protect the ancient objects discovered in Susa. The materials used in the construction of this castle are bricks and clay, and the engraved bricks of Dariush's palace were also used in its construction.Castle architecture:Shush Castle has two courtyards at different heights, numerous towers and several entrances. The northern tower of the castle, which is its highest tower, is located in the middle of the courtyard, and the western tower was used as a dovecote in the past.Castle attractions:Special architecture: Susa Castle, with its medieval and stepped architecture, is similar to European castles.Museum: Currently, the Susa Archaeological Museum is located inside the castle and the ancient objects discovered in Susa are displayed in this museum.View: From the top of the castle, a panoramic view of the city of Shush and its surrounding plains can be seen.Importance of the castle:Shush Castle has been registered as one of the national monuments of Iran and is of great importance due to its antiquity, architecture and the role it has played in the archaeological history of Iran.Visiting the castle:Shush Castle is open to the public every day, and those interested in history and archeology can visit this historical monument.
