Saad al-Sultaneh Caravanserai is the largest indoor caravanserai in the world, located in Qazvin, Iran. This caravanserai was built in the Qajar period by the order of Mohammad Baqerkhan Saad al-Sultaneh, the then ruler of Qazvin.Saad al-Sultaneh Caravanserai is built on a land of 2.7 hectares with about 400 rooms. This caravanserai has two main entrances in the north and south and two secondary entrances in the east and west.The central yard of the caravanserai is wide and rectangular, and there is a large stone pond in the middle of it. The cabins of the caravanserai are located on two floors around the central courtyard.The architectural decorations of Saad al-Sultaneh Caravanserai are very beautiful and impressive. Among these decorations, the following can be mentioned:Brickwork: The exterior of the caravanserai is decorated with brickwork.Tiling: In some parts of the caravanserai, tiling has been used for decoration.Moqranskari: Moqranskari is one of the main elements of decoration in Iranian architecture. In Saad al-Sultaneh caravanserai, moqrans work has been used to decorate the fronts and porches.Saad al-Sultaneh Caravanserai is currently used as a commercial and tourism center. In this caravanserai, the cells have been converted into various shops, and in its central courtyard, there are restaurants and traditional teahouses.
