Qazvin Old Grand Mosque: a treasure of history and architectureAtiq Qazvin Grand Mosque is one of the oldest and largest mosques in Iran, located in the center of Qazvin city on Shahada (Sephe) Street. This mosque, which is also known as the Great Mosque and the Ancient Mosque, is located in the first row of four-evan mosques in Iran, and the most important and beautiful porch is the south porch.History:The first building of the Atiq Mosque of Qazvin was built in 192 AH by the order of Harun al-Rashid, the Abbasid caliph. Throughout history, this mosque has been restored many times and various sections have been added to it.Architecture:Atiq Qazvin Grand Mosque with an area of about 29,000 square meters has a courtyard, a porch, a chapel, a dome, a minaret and a gate.Court: The court of the mosque is wide and rectangular in shape and there is a large stone pond in the middle of it.Porch: The mosque has four porches in different directions, of which the southern porch is taller and more beautiful than the other porches.Shabestan: The mosque's shabestans are located on four sides of the courtyard and have stone columns and brick arches.Dome: The dome of the mosque is located in the middle of the courtyard and is decorated with turquoise tiles.Minaret: The mosque has two tall minarets located on both sides of the south porch.Front: The front of the mosque is very large and magnificent and is decorated with enamel tiles and moqrans work.Decorations:Atiq Qazvin Grand Mosque is decorated with very beautiful and impressive decorations, including tiling, moqrans work, paintings and inscriptions.Tiling: The mosque is decorated with enamel tiles and seven colors. These tiles are used in porches, naves and the dome of the mosque.Moqranskari: Moqranskari is one of the main elements of decoration in Iranian architecture. In the Jame Atiq mosque, moqrans work is also used to decorate the porches and the dome.Painting: In some parts of the mosque, there are beautiful wall paintings. These paintings include religious and historical images.Inscriptions: There are many inscriptions in Nastaliq and Thuluth script in the Atiq mosque. These inscriptions include Quranic verses, hadiths and religious poems.
