Kerman's Moidi glacier: an engineering masterpiece in the heart of the desertThe Moidi Glacier in Kerman is the largest clay glacier in Iran and the world, which was built at the end of the Safavid era by the order of Moiduddin Rayhan, one of the agents of the Kerman government. This building, which is located on Abu Hamid Street in Kerman, has been registered as one of the national monuments of Iran.Architecture and performance:Yakhdan Moidi is a unique example of Iranian engineering and architecture in the Safavid period. This building is made in the form of a dome with clay and mud materials and has a large tank for storing ice.During the winter season, the water of the aqueduct froze in the glacial ponds, and then the ice was transferred into the reservoir. The thickness of the walls and dome of the ice-box was such that the ice remained intact until the summer season and they were used to cool drinks and food in the summer season.
