Kandavan village

Kandavan village, the rocky wonder of IranKandavan village is located in East Azarbaijan province and at the foot of Sahand mountain. This village is known as one of the wonders of Iran due to its unique architecture, where the houses are carved from the heart of the rocks.Rock architecture:Kandwan houses, also known as Karan, are carved out of cone-shaped rocks called tuff. These houses are 700 years old and it is said that they were originally used as shelters by Zoroastrians.Features of borders:Each border consists of three floors. The first floor was used as a stable and a place to keep animals. The second floor was the place where people lived, and the third floor was where food and fodder were stored. The borders have a natural ventilation system. Due to the presence of openings in the roof of the borders, the air inside them is always ventilated. The borders are insulated against cold and heat. The thickness of the walls of the borders insulates them against cold and heat.
