Catholic Armenian Cemetery, also known as Dolab Cemetery, is one of the oldest cemeteries in Tehran. This cemetery is located in Dolab region, east of Tehran, and is the burial place of many Catholic Armenians living in Iran.History:The Catholic Armenian Cemetery was established in 1848 by Dr. Tolouzan, a French physician at the court of Naser al-Din Shah Qajar. At that time, Catholic Armenians were not allowed to be buried in Muslim cemeteries, and for this reason, Dr. Toluzan bought a plot of land in Dolab and dedicated it to the Catholic Armenian cemetery.Specifications:Armenian Catholic cemetery has an area of about 44 thousand square meters and there are more than 12 thousand graves in it. The graves in this cemetery are built in different styles, including traditional Armenian style, European style, and Iranian style.Celebrities:Many famous Iranian Armenians are buried in the Catholic Armenian Cemetery. Among these celebrities, we can mention Oganyans, the first director of Iranian cinema, Shahin Sarkisian, the founder of the modern theater in Iran, and Comte de Montfert, the first police chief of Iran.Current situation:The Armenian Catholic Cemetery is currently managed by the Armenian Caliphate Council of Tehran. This cemetery is one of Tehran's tourist attractions and many tourists visit it every year.
