Traditional Iranian blanket weaving art: a warm heritage of art and originality

Traditional Iranian blanket weaving is one of the most valuable handicrafts of this land, which is rooted in the rich history and culture of Iran. Handwoven blankets, in addition to their main function as a warm cover, are considered a symbol of Iranian art, authenticity and identity.

History and geographic distribution

The art of blanket weaving has a long history in Iran and has been popular in many regions, especially in cold and mountainous regions. Each region uses special and distinctive designs and colorings in woven blankets according to the weather conditions, available raw materials and its native culture. Kurdistan, Mazandaran and Khorasan are among the famous areas for blanket weaving in Iran.

The steps of producing a handmade blanket

The production of a handmade blanket includes different steps, each of which requires special skill and Precision. These steps are:

Preparation of wool: Sheep wool is washed and cleaned after picking.Spinning: The cleaned wool is spun and turned into yarn.Dyeing: The spun yarns are dyed with natural or chemical dyes.Weaving: Long threads are stretched on the weaving loom.Weaving: Using a comb and mako, transverse threads are woven on the skeins and the blanket fabric is formed.Draining and drying: After the weaving is finished, the blanket is washed and spread out to dry.Shearing and finishing: the extra fluff of the blanket is trimmed and the blanket is ready to use.Common patterns and patterns in blanket weaving
