The art of glitch weaving: a valuable heritage of Iranian handicrafts

Glitch weaving is one of the original and ancient handicrafts of Iran, which has its roots in the rich culture and history of Semnan region, especially the villages of Foulad Mohlah, Erost, Reza Abad and Chashem. This art is performed using a glitch weaving machine, which is very similar to a cloth weaving machine, and the final product is a strong and durable fabric, which in the past was mainly used for sewing men's clothing.

Glitch has been popular in Semnan region for a long time and because of its durable material, it is mostly used for sewing men's work and everyday clothes. But unfortunately, with the passage of time and lifestyle changes, this valuable art has been forgotten.

The main raw materials used in glitch weaving are:

Yarn: Cotton yarn is usually used.Weft: wool is used.The main tool of this art is the glitch weaving machine, which is used to weave warp and weft threads together.

Glitch production steps

The glitch production process includes the following steps:

Yarn preparation: cotton and wool yarns are washed and ready for weaving.Weaving: Long threads (warp) are stretched on the loom.Weaving: Using a comb and a mako, transverse threads (weft) are woven on the chelae.Draining and drying: After the weaving is finished, the gliche is washed and spread out to dry.Designs and roles

Glitch designs are usually simple and geometric. Straight lines, squares and rhombuses are among the most common designs in glitch weaving.
