Dearie weaving

TThe art of dearie weaving: a shining gem in the desert of Iran's handicrafts

Weaving or ikat is one of the most delicate and complex traditional Iranian textile arts in which, before weaving, the threads are knotted and wrapped and then dyed. This creates very beautiful and unique geometric and abstract designs that cannot be replicated in any other woven fabric.

The historical background and geography of the art of daraei weaving

The roots of daraei creation in Iran go back to ancient times. This delicate art has been popular in many regions of Iran, especially in Yazd, Kerman, Isfahan and some other central and southern cities of the country. However, Yazd is known as the main property center of Iran and Yazdi properties are world famous.

The steps of fabric production

Producing an asset fabric is a long and delicate process that involves the following steps:

Thread preparation: cotton or silk threads are first washed and cleaned.

Knotting: Threads are tied regularly and with a specific pattern. These knots determine the final design of the fabric.

Dyeing: The knotted threads are dyed in different colors.

Weaving: dyed threads are stretched over the fabric.

Weaving: Using a weaving machine, the weft threads are woven on the skeins and the material fabric is formed.

Diverse plans and roles in daraei creation

Asset designs are very diverse and include geometric shapes, flowers, bushes and abstract designs. These designs are often inspired by the nature, architecture and culture of the region.

Wide applications of property fabrics

Due to its beauty and elegance, the property fabrics are used in the production of a wide range of textile products, including:

desktop

cushion

carpet

Traditional clothes

Shawls and scarves

curtain

Types of property weaving

Asset weaving is done in two main ways:

Weaving by warp method: In this method, warp threads (longitudinal threads) are tied and dyed before weaving. This method is more traditional and common.

Property weaving by weft method: In this method, weft threads (transverse threads) are tied and dyed before weaving. This method is more complicated and requires more skill.

Tools and devices used in property weaving

The tools used in asset management are:

Weaving loom: A device on which warp and weft threads are stretched and weaving is done.

Comb: A tool for keeping the warp threads separate.

Mako: A tool for passing the weft threads between the warp threads.

Scissors: to cut the threads and trim the excess lint of the fabric.

Needle: to sew different pieces of fabric.

Natural and chemical dyes: for dyeing threads.

The colors used in the weaving

In the past, natural dyes such as runas, indigo, turmeric and pomegranate peel were used to dye threads. Today, chemical dyes are also used, which provide more color variation.

Complex and varied designs

Asset-building plans are very diverse and complex. Some of these plans include:

Geometric designs: square, rhombus, triangle, cross, etc.

Plant designs: flowers, bushes, leaves and trees

Animal designs: birds, fish and other animals

Abstract designs: designs made up of geometric shapes and curved lines.

Modern applications of property fabrics

Today, in addition to the traditional uses, the material fabrics are also used in the production of more modern products. Some of these applications include:

Furniture: sofa covers, cushions and puffs

Interior decoration: curtains, tablecloths, bedspreads

Fashion and clothing: shawls, scarves, bags and dresses

Handicrafts: making ornaments, wallets, etc.
